India has required QR or barcodes on the country's top 300 pharma brands since 2023, and on every active pharmaceutical ingredient since January 2023. In 2026, that requirement was widened to cover all vaccines, antimicrobials, anti-cancer medicines, and narcotic and psychotropic drugs under Schedule H2. Several states are rolling out similar QR track-and-trace mandates for alcohol to curb smuggling and counterfeit liquor.
